of Monica's in Deep Ellum , Dallas hires Ro to design part of the interior
of her new restaurant (Ciudad) in Highland Park. He also paints a 13'X6'
canvas for behind the bar area titled "Old & New".
Ro,
participated in the "Painted Chef's Jacket Auction" sponsored by Greater
Dallas Restaurant Association and Paper City Magazine. The money will
go to future scholarship students attending El Centro Community College
department of culinary careers. The coat was auctioned for $600. The
event was part of the GDRA TasteMaker Awards ceremony and dinner dance
at the Gypsy Tea Room. The GDRA TasteMaker saluted excellence in restaurant
advertising, design, journalism, customer and community service. Other

Contract
with Carlson Worldwide for Ro to become the signature artist for Samba
Room restaurants. The contract includes restaurants in: Dallas, Houston
(Texas), Ft. Lauderdale, South Beach, Orlando, Tampa, West Palm Beach
(Florida), Phoenix Arizona, Denver Colorado and Chicago. Original oil
on canvas (approx. 27'X6') titled "Cuba 1957"
Ro
participated in the Dallas Museum of Art Beaux Arts Ball Auction which
raised in excess of a million dollars in honoring the museum's programs.
The celebration Carnival des Artistes was inspired by three cubist paintings
by Pablo Picasso, George Braque and Juan Gris. His painting Yellow Chair
was auctioned at over $3000.
Ro's
third trip to Europe. He mostly spent time in Rome Florence, visiting
The Museum of Modern Art, Rome, The Dali Museum, a special exhibit of
Renoir's work, the Exhibit of Botello, especially large sculptures,
an exhibit of El Greco's work. He also visited the Catacomes, the Roman
ruins, The Vatican, The Partheon, St. Peter's Cathedral, The Trevi Fountain,
and many other works of art, including David, and other unknown works
like "Christ and The Cross" by Michaelangelo hidden in a simple catholic
church.
Phyllis
Hammond, a business acquaintance, contacted Ro about a special project
involving The Pegasus, the icon for the origination of the city of Dallas,
located in the heart of downtown. The artwork Ro painted was auctioned
after several stops in the downtown area including Neiman Marcus, for
$25,000 by Paul Harris of the Hoblitzel Foundation "D" Magazine covered
a special story on this event. All funds will benefit CDA and The Pegasus
Project. Mayor of Dallas, Ron Kirk bid $7,000 on the painting himself.

Ron Kirk acknowledges Ro's work in the media at a press conference announcing
Dallas 2000, A New Year's celebration event in connection with The Pegasus
project.
Ro
did a special benefit for the Annual Aids Interfaith Network Fund Raiser.
He donated an oil on canvas titled Two-in-One for the auction. Miss
Regina Newey is now the happy owner of Two-in-One by Rolando Diaz. Miss
Newey bid the highest for the piece at $2400.
